What it does
This bill would establish the National Fab Lab Network, a federally chartered nonprofit corporation — not a government agency — to coordinate a nationwide system of local digital fabrication facilities ("fab labs"). The corporation would seek to place at least one fab lab in every congressional district, prioritizing underserved communities, and would link existing and new labs into a shared network. It would be governed by a board of 8 initial members appointed equally by House and Senate leadership from both parties, and would be authorized to accept public and private funding, distribute grants, set standards, and maintain a national registry of fab labs.
